The Marketing Reporting Service (MRS), a subscription fee based program established in 1989, has quickly become the most respected source of market information pertaining to the Nebraska and Midwestern direct fed cattle markets.  The primary goal of the MRS is to provide a timely and accurate account of current market conditions so that member feedyards are able to make well-informed marketing and risk management decisions.

Staffed by two full-time analysts with over 40 years of cumulative industry experience, the MRS currently provides timely market information for feedyard customers in six Midwestern states (NE, IA, ND, SD, MN, IL) representing a combined capacity in excess of 1.5 million head.  Member feedyards range in size from 700-70,000 head. The program is anchored by toll-free telephone service to the Lincoln office, with up-to-the minute information also available via the members-only MRS website, email, SMS text messaging, and DTN.

The MRS collects cattle-on-feed data from Nebraska member feedyards on a monthly basis, and releases the results of each survey to participating feeders. These reports, initiated in 1991, are accepted throughout the industry as the most detailed and accurate reflection of Nebraska’s monthly on-feed inventories, placements, marketings and inventory weight distributions (reported in 100-pound increments).

In addition to monitoring the Nebraska and Midwestern cash fed cattle trade, the MRS maintains a broad base of contacts throughout the cattle feeding and beef industry including prominent out-of-state feeding operations, retail meat buyers and major commodity trading organizations.  Through this nation-wide contact base, MRS is able to bring customers a complete “real-time” and “mobile” market information package that can be specifically tailored to meet the market information needs of most any size or type of feeding operation.
