Beef Industry Issues Summit to Provide Economy, Financing Outlooks

Cattle producers interested in a candid discussion of the economy and financing for ag enterprises to be held two weeks after the Nov. 4th elections are invited to attend Nebraska Cattlemen’s Third Annual Beef Industry Issues Summit.
Nebraska Cattlemen working with UNL Department of Animal Science is hosting the summit on Tuesday, November 18 at the Animal Science Building on the UNL East Campus in Lincoln. The program will begin with registration at 9:00 a.m. and conclude at 4:00 p.m.
The summit is designed for Nebraska Cattlemen members who have been wondering just what the economy will do to their businesses. Michael Kelsey, Nebraska Cattlemen executive vice president, said participants should not expect lectures, but should be prepared for a lively and valuable discussion of the topics.
The program, titled The Economy: Foundation, Future and Fallout, will focus on finances, including credit availability, cost and regulation.
Speakers include John Munn, Nebraska State Department of Banking director. He will discuss regulatory matters regarding the banking industry. George Enloe, senior partner with Amarillo Brokerage Co., will discuss issues relating to risk management, market volatility. Gregg Doud, NCBA Chief Economist, will discuss outlook information related to trade, demand, market volatility and world supplies. The summit keynote speaker will be Barry Flinchbaugh, Kansas State University Ag Economist. He will discuss his experiences with government, his outlook on key government policies under a new administration.
Because space is limited, interested producers should call the Nebraska Cattlemen at 402-475-2333. Upon receipt of a completed registration, producers will receive parking and meeting room information as well as the updated agenda. The cost of the program for NC members is $65 and covers lunch and materials for the event.
The Nebraska Cattlemen association serves as the representative for the state’s beef cattle industry and represents professional cattle breeders, ranchers and feeders, as well as 48 county and local cattlemen’s associations. An uncertain financial future is of concern to many cattlemen these days. The Nebraska Cattlemen is helping make the picture less cloudy with a November 18 summit called The Financial Markets: Foundation, Future and Fallout. Michael Kelsey, Nebraska Cattlemen executive vice president, says the topic is appropriate this year.
