Charlie Hunt Inducted into Nebraska Cattlemen Hall of Fame
Charlie Hunt, Oxford, was inducted into the Nebraska Cattlemen Hall of Fame at the recent NC convention in Lincoln. The NC Hall of Fame is the highest honor that Nebraska Cattlemen bestows on one of its members and has been awarded to many great leaders.
The 2006 recipient of the Cattlemen Hall of Fame award began the family cattle operation in the early 1960s after graduating from the University of Nebraska. While in Lincoln, Hunt was a member of FarmHouse Fraternity and studied Agriculture Engineering. Working side by side with family members, Hunt started the family operation with a love for God, family, the land and, of course, great cattle. The operation now consists of over 350 registered Limousin females and 40 Aubrac females, which is the largest Aubrac herd in the U.S. Annually selling 100 bulls, genetics from the operation have been placed all over the globe from this well-known family operation. Carcass evaluation and feed efficiency are very important to Hunt. Cattle that are efficient on forage and feed while providing the consumer with a tender, tasty and consistent product are key to Hunt’s operation.
Hunt has been very active in community and state organizations. He is a past president of the Nebraska Limousin Association, a two-term chairman of the Nebraska Cattlemen Seedstock Council, founding member of the Heartland Limousin Association, an active member of the Harlan County Cattlemen and is currently serving as president of the Nebraska Cattlemen Classic Board of Directors.
Hunt has an extremely high regard for family, having four children and seven grandchildren. He first met and fell in love with his wife in 1960 and they have been partners ever since.
Hunt’s philosophy can be summed up in several short yet pointed statements. Conserve the land for future generations; treat people with honesty and integrity; sell high quality cattle for a fair price; and keep current and knowledgeable on leading cattle issues. Hunt joins 17 other producers previously inducted into the Nebraska Cattlemen Hall of Fame, including James Maonahan, Hyannis, 2005; Merlyn Carlson, Lodgepole, 2004; Sid Salzman, Ainsworth, 2003. In 2002 the following were inducted: Jerry Adamson, Cody; Frank Bruning, Bruning; Byron Eatinger, Thedford; Jim Gran, Gordon; Charles Iodence, Hemmingford; John Klosterman, David City; Harry Knobbe, West Point; Jack Maddux, Wauneta; Rowland McClymont, Holdrege; Dick Mercer, Kearney; E.H. “Shoey” Shoemaker, North Platte; Frank Sibert, Valentine; Pat Vinton, deceased; and Arnold Wright, Mullen |
