At Your Service

By Melody Benjamin

Alot of attention is given to the work Nebraska Cattlemen does with the Legislature and the regulatory agencies – and rightly so!  Nebraska Cattlemen does a very effective job in policy development and communicating the importance of those policies.  But there are many other services that are a benefit of membership.  Here are a few to remind you.

Cattle Theft Reward – A reward for up to $5,000 will be paid by the NC Board of Directors for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any person or persons who steal cattle from a Nebraska Cattlemen member.

BEEF 706 – A joint effort of the University of Nebraska, Nebraska Beef Council and Nebraska Cattlemen, this two-day course is designed to give producers a chance to understand how their production decisions impact the beef product coming from fed beef. This seminar is held three times a year at the UNL facilities in Lincoln.

BEEF 808 – A joint effort of the University of Nebraska, Nebraska Beef Council and Nebraska Cattlemen, this advanced course is designed as a follow-up to BEEF 706.  This seminar focuses on the beef product from the packing house to the plate and gives producers a chance to understand how their production decisions impact the beef product.

Beef Quality Assurance – A joint effort of the Nebraska Veterinary Association, Nebraska Beef Council and Nebraska Cattlemen that has become one of the nation’s premier programs to assist producers in analyzing their production practices to reduce defective product.

Nebraska Cattlemen’s Classic – A joint effort between the Kearney Chamber of Commerce and Nebraska Cattlemen to bring a first-class seedstock show and sale event to Kearney each February.

NC Young Cattlemen’s Conference – Training for young cattle people in Nebraska to develop leadership skills and knowledge relating to the cattle industry and the Nebraska Cattlemen association.

Environmental Compliance – A new venture to help producers with environmental compliance issues.

Market Reporting Service – A subscription-based service to assist producers with marketing their cattle.

IRM Sub-committee – A joint effort of the University of Nebraska and Nebraska Cattlemen to make nominations to the Beef Improvement Federation of Nebraska and to develop the yearly Cattlemen’s College.

Hay Hotline – A new venture to assist producers in need of hay following devastating fires or winter weather.

We are always looking to add new services that are needed and we welcome your input in that effort. As always your member services staff is “at your service.”    Y Melody Benjamin is part of NC’s Member Services team. She manages the Alliance office and coordinates the Member Services field staff around the state.
