North Platte Livestock First Annual BQA Sale a Success
By Drew Gaffney
The North Platte Livestock Market in North Platte held its first annual Beef Quality Assurance calf sale Oct. 23, 2007. North Platte Livestock’s owner, Holly Hullings Roeser, understands the BQA program’s importance and the need for its implementation in the industry. A Beef Quality Assurance Training held at the sale facility in July prompted Roeser to suggest hosting the October sale. Roeser also understands that producers who have become BQA certified and use those practices in their operations need to be showcased.
The first annual Beef Quality Assurance sale provided buyers the opportunity to bid on over 2,400 head, nearly all of which were raised by BQA-certified producers. The quality and quantity of the cattle offered that day was excellent.
The market was good and buyer attendance was strong. Representatives from the Nebraska Cattlemen, the Nebraska Beef Council and Pfizer Animal Health were on hand to answer questions about programs and products. Plans are already underway for another sale in 2008.
The Nebraska Cattlemen would like to thank Holly Hullings Roeser, Alli Jones, Kenny Uphoff and the rest of the crew for hosting this sale. The Nebraska Cattlemen would also like to congratulate Roeser on her success and wish her the best of luck in the future.
A second BQA certified sale will be held Jan. 22 at North Platte. If you have any questions about this sale or representing your cattle as BQA certified, contact Drew Gaffney at (308) 643-9367. Y By Drew Gaffney, NC’s BQA coordinator.
