Nebraska Cattlemen Announces Midyear Schedule

The Nebraska Cattlemen has planned a great line-up of activities and speakers for its Midyear Meeting. The event will be in the Ashland and Lincoln areas on June 12-13. It will kick off on Thursday, June 12 with the annual Golf Tournament to be at Iron Horse Golf Club in Ashland, followed by the NC Midyear Welcome Reception at the Double D Ranch that will include a New York Strip dinner and western music. The Welcome Reception host is the Nebraska Cattlemen Saunders County affiliate – the home affiliate of current NC President Larry Smith.

Friday, June 13 the events move to the Holiday Inn – Downtown in Lincoln. Attendees may participate in NC policy committees addressing animal health, brand, education, marketing, natural resources and tax issues. Many issues affect Nebraska cattle producers and cattle producers can voice their opinion during policy discussion at these meetings. Participating in the discussions is an opportunity to shape policy and provide direction for Nebraska Cattlemen leaders and staff. 

The annual NC Research and Education Foundation Luncheon, sponsored by the Nebraska Soybean Board, will be at 11:30 a.m. and winners of the Retail Value Steer Challenge and NC Youth Scholarships will be announced. Keynote speaker is Anita Estes-Wollenburg, a former Nebraska and National FFA officer, who will discuss leadership involvement and efforts to keep youth involved in agriculture.

The General Session will begin at 4:00 p.m. June 13 with keynote speaker Wesley Batista, President and CEO of JBS Swift & Company. JBS is the largest beef processor in South America and one of the largest worldwide beef exporters. The company bought Swift & Co. last year. This year, JBS announced acquisition of National Beef, Smithfield Beef Group, Tasman Group and Five Rivers Ranch Cattle Feeding, the largest cattle feeding operation in the world.

During a Friday evening NC Political Action Committee fundraiser finale, producers can view the new “Beef State” documentary and hear comments from film producers about the making of the film. In addition, cattlemen will have the opportunity to view the NC Research and Education Foundation’s Olaf Wieghorst painting “Rough String Rider” that is on loan to the UNL gallery.
